photo tips - little tips for the non-pro

Use negative space or empty space to create drama.  This works best with a simple or plain background.  If people are the main subject of the photograph make sure they are looking towards the negative space.  These types of pictures are great for including text in as well.

Gary Fitzpatrick-tips from a fashion photographer

Hi Guys
We were lucky enough to have Vancouver fashion photographer Gary Fitzpatrick visit our site and leave a comment in the photo tips section.  I thought that it would be too easy to miss so I decided to repost his tip here.  If you want to check out some cutting edge fashion work visit his site here.

"With regard to the baby pictures post, also use the zoom. Long lenses are much more flattering than wide angles. When shooting portraits try the zoom. Wide angles are better for landscapes and funny portraits." GF

This will work with a SLR or even a point and shoot camera, use the zoom to eliminate distracting elements in the picture.

Photo Tips - little tips for the non-pro

Get Closer.

How many times have we seen the great picture of the baby with all the rest of the junk in the room as well.  All people really want to see is just the cute close-up of the baby.

One of the easiest way to take better pictures is to move in close.  Compose your frame and take two steps in.  This helps eliminate background clutter and focuses the viewer on the subject.  It's not always easy to eliminate all the busy stuff in the background, so don't be afraid to get in close.
